Job Description

SUMMARY:  Works with curriculum development team to develop, edit, and maintain curriculum content and other projects.

Compliance Obligation:  All GCE employees are responsible for knowing and complying with the applicable constitution, bylaws, laws, policies, rules, regulations, and/or enforcement structures of and governing the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and of the Western Athletic Conference, especially if this role is in frequent interaction with student athletes.


  • Edits curriculum for grammar, mechanics, and content prior to quality assurance and peer review.
  • Copyedits content for clarity, consistency, and adherence to appropriate style guides, including APA, MLA, Turabian, and others as needed.
  • Proofreads material in a variety of systems and formats.
  • Applies appropriate context, audience, and purpose while editing.
  • Collaborates directly with curriculum developers and instructional designers to ensure that projects are delivered on schedule and reflect appropriate editorial standards.
  • Works independently to manage multiple projects to meet ongoing and varied deadlines.
  • Identifies and promotes needs of the department to provide solutions to problems and support of ongoing change.
  • Stays abreast of changes in the field of editing and requirements of the organization and makes appropriate adjustments to practice.
  • Takes appropriate actions to ensure that issues are proactively identified, investigated, addressed, escalated when needed, and resolved quickly.
  • Provides quality service in working with partners, in coordination of workflows within intra- and inter-departmental entities, and in facilitating communication among stakeholders.
  • Establishes self-driven expectations to achieve a high level of quality, productivity, and service.
  • Performs additional duties as required.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent skill in Microsoft Office suite; Ability to learn additional software as needed.
  • Excellent knowledge of grammar and command of the English language.

Education and/or Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree required in journalism, communication, writing, English, language arts, or related field
  • 3 - 5 years of relevant experience

Frequently:  25%-60% or 4-5 hrs/shift            Rarely:  <10% or less than 2 hrs/shift

  • Work is frequently performed in an office and is more than 50% sedentary.
  • Frequently maneuvers and navigates a variety of computer software using a computer pointing device which requires use of hands, wrists, forearms, shoulders, and neck.
  • Frequently reviews, reads, and peruses data and information displayed via computer monitors or other similar viewing devices.
  • Frequently compares and assesses information or data to identify accuracies, anomalies, discrepancies, etc.
  • Frequent contact with staff and others outside own department via email, Internet, or in person, requiring clear and concise communications skills.
  • Frequently communicates verbally and/or in writing/electronically to generate/compose communications or to respond to questions, general inquiries, summarize information, report conclusions and recommendations.
  • Frequently uses hearing and participates in active listening over phones and communication devices with management and staff.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to focus, particularly while using a computer/mobile display.
  • Mental acuity required for prolonged periods of concentration, focus, for proofreading and the careful and thorough attention to detail, for formulating conclusions and making recommendations.
